CSO Community Partnership Programs
Armonía with the National Museum of Mexican Art— Pilsen Community
The Armonía Community Partnership Program provides interaction with CSO and Civic Orchestra musicians through ensemble concerts, lecture/demonstrations, and educational programs at the National Museum of Mexican Art. During the 2006-2007 season, a Chicago Symphony Orchestra ensemble and a Civic Orchestra of Chicago ensemble presented concerts at the National Museum of Mexican Art. A popular after-school music class, Musica en el Museo, helped students make connections between music and art.
Caminos a la Música with the Resurrection Project—Pilsen/Little Village Community
Through this partnership between the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Resurrection Project, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Civic Orchestra of Chicago musicians present performances in Pilsen and Little Village as a part of the community's annual celebrations such as Dia de la Virgen de Guadalupe, Via Crucis, and others. Through these concerts, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and classical music become a part of the fabric of the community.
The Resurrection Project constituents also have the option of joining Caminos a la Música Concert Club, which allows members to attend concerts at Orchestra Hall as part of a familiar group. Tickets are offered at reduced rates, and transportation to and from Symphony Center is included. Subscribers to the Caminos a la Música Concert Club are also given the opportunity to participate in educational discussions about the concerts with the group before and after each concert at Symphony Center.
People's Music School Partnership—Uptown Community
The People's Music School is a conservatory in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood that offers free, high-quality classical music training to people who otherwise would not have the chance to study music. Now in its ninth consecutive year, the partnership program continues to supplement what the People's Music School offers by providing free performances by Chicago Symphony Orchestra ensembles, master classes and lecture/demonstrations for music students at People's, and free tickets to concerts at Symphony Center.
Gallery 37
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra partners with Gallery 37’s Vocal Arts Program to provide access to a Chicago Symphony Chorus member as an artist educator to select, gifted young vocalists from Chicago Public Schools. Students learn basic music reading, performance, and stage presentation skills while refining individual and group vocal techniques. Throughout the season, there are opportunities for students to attend concerts and rehearsals and workshops at Symphony Center. |
