![]() Since her wildly acclaimed Paris debut in 2004 when she stepped onstage on short notice for an ailing colleague, violinist Arabella Steinbacher has astonished and inspired audiences around the world. The New York Times has lauded her “finely polished technique” and “beautifully varied palette of timbres.” The Strad has praised her “nonchalant ease,” “effortless technical command,” and “sheer class.” I am very excited to be performing with the CSO. It’s been one of my dreams. And, I’m incredibly happy to make my U.S. orchestra debut with the CSO. The Orchestra’s energy and sound, paired with the Sibelius, will be a great combination! The Sibelius has been part of my repertoire since I was 14. It is so beautiful, and there is so much in the music— passion, darkness, melancholy. It takes a violinist’s entire being to play it. I look forward to working with Maestro Dohnányi and the musicians of the Orchestra for the first time, to realize the amazing range of feeling and drama in this piece. There are technical challenges in this piece, of course, but the bigger challenge is the depth of emotion that you must show. I hope listeners will take some of that emotion home with them in their hearts. |
